It’s summer, and for us (amongst other things) that means heat waves, staying out late and new movies!
So why not combine the two we thought, and give you a rundown of the outdoor cinemas in Melbourne that you can check out over this warmer weather.
Rooftop Cinema:
Booze, deckchairs and great movies, that’s what Rooftop Cinemas is about!
Located atop of Curtin House on bustling Swanston Street this cinema experience has you covered for a great night out. You can have a preshow dinner at any of the establishments located below roof level of this art nouveau building, our favourite being Mesa Verda for some spice, they also have an impressive range of tequila for you to try before your movie! The Toff in Town has you covered for good drinks, great live music and delicious food too and then it’s up to the roof for your movie and, oh hell why not, another tipple at the rooftop bar.
Rooftop Cinema runs until April and features arthouse films, your favourite classics and new releases.
Shadow Electric:
Take a trip out to Abbotsford Convent’s courtyard for a wide range of films with The Shadow Electric.
You can grab a bite to eat and a game of ping pong (yes, they have a ping pong table there!) before you head on in to your director’s chair style seating to watch the latest flicks or even a documentary.
The eclectic Shadow Electric runs until the 9th of March.
Moonlight Cinema:
Probably the most well known outdoor cinemas in Melbourne is the Moonlight Cinema on the lawns of the iconic Royal Botanic Gardens.
Take a walk around the gardens before your showing, play some frisbee or just lounge on the lawns. Then, enjoy a picnic with friends while you watch the best cult classics and new releases available.
Moonlight Cinema is on until the end of March.
